After breaking up with her boyfriend of two years, Mary Richards, a single 30 year old woman, moves to Minneapolis,
Minnesota. She lands a job as the associate producer of the news broadcast on the station WJM-TV. Mary
make's all kind's of friends along the way. Like her tough-acting boss, Lou Grant (Ed Asner), wacky anchorman Ted Baxter (Ted
Knight) kind newswriter Murray Slaughter (Gavin Macleod) neighbor and ex-New Yorker Rhoda Morgenstern (Valerie Harper), and
self-centered landlady Phyllis Lindstrom (Cloris Leachman).
Later in the series she meets high-strung and man-crazy host of WJM's cooking program, The Happy Homemaker,
Sue Ann Nivens (Betty White) and soft-spoken and shy girlfriend of Ted Baxter, Georgette Franklin (Georgia Engel).
The Mary Tyler Moore Show, which is really intitled Mary Tyler Moore, aired on CBS from September 19, 1970 to
March 19, 1977. It was one of the most critically acclaimed shows and one of the best loved. The Mary Tyler Moore Show was
a breakthrough television show because it showed a strong, independent woman, living on her own and being succesful while
at it. It can truly be called a classic.
